24 May
A 10-member delegation neared Sirte in good faith to deliver a written response to Libyan authorities in eastern Libya, as previously agreed. Instead of being received for negotiations, they were ordered into unmarked vans and transferred to an unknown location. All communication was severed at 3:22 pm local time.
25 May
Libyan authorities announced the detention, accusing the delegates of violating entry permit procedures. All 10 hold valid visas and entered Libya legally. They were taken into custody from a security checkpoint.
2 June
The 10 delegates were brought before the Attorney General in Benghazi to record their statements. The Attorney General issued an extension of their detention for an additional 10 days. They were returned to the Illegal Immigration Detention Facility.
Civilian volunteers who came to participate in a global humanitarian mission remain deprived of their freedom, despite ongoing diplomatic and legal efforts. We will not stop demanding their release.
